Wow! It's been a morning of Earth Moving - earth moving machinery, that is - for me. We started out the day at the groundbreaking for Piedmont-Newnan Hospital up on Poplar Road. The hospital President presented a detailed review of the hospital and grounds at a Chamber of Commerce meeting several weeks back, and it is an impressive facility indeed! Wandering around the site today, it was especially nice to see big swaths of tree-covered land clearly marked off for preservation. We can count on our county's hospital to have more than just a few teeny-eeny saplings on its grounds.
On a similar tree-themed note, we drove through Post Street Park here in Grantville, checking out the progress on the new road being built to connect the current park to the new South Coweta Ball Park. While it was necessary to remove some trees on the south side of the park, we've still got lots of forestry between West Grantville Road and the ball fields.
Speaking of which, you been by the old ball field site on Colley Street lately? The new ball park is really taking shape! We can all look forward to lots of great sporting activity next spring. Our new County/City library will be built on the little road between the fields and Post Street park. Hopefully, we'll get news of that groundbreaking date soon.
There are even more big machines right here in my own corner of town today. The county recently scraped decades of debris and overgrowth off of Smith Street and the pavers started work this morning.
At the very first council meeting I attended after moving here in 2002, the city council approved use of SPLOST funds to repave Smith Street. Since then, I've been told many times that it was "up to the county" to step in and actually do the job. I am sure there is more to that story, but it's no surprise to me they are finally here. All of these projects are example of why county-city relations are so important for our community and {SWAK!} I'm thankful to Mayor Houston for her efforts in that regard. {Seriously, I'm not just kissing up to the Mayor, I actually believe what I'm saying here!}
